Environmental protection

Nature Conservation Is an integral part of our work. With out a healthy environment we are living out of sync with nature so environmental balance is just as important to the foundation as anything else we do.

We started with education and built what we call the “Butterfly Effect” The idea being that one small change can have massive repercussions. The Butterfly Effect is a spiritual garden and butterfly park. It has a sound garden, Active Bee house, spiritual labyrinth and Wild Nyala roaming around. It's free to the public and is designed to educate and engage the kids. It basically serves as reminder that we all live on this earth and we have no where else to go.

We have a clean river project that rehabilitated the local river system. This has turned a very polluted river into a good one. As part of the on going work we work alongside environmental affairs and provide regular water testing, the removal of invasive species and restocking the fish supplies.

We have rehabilitated large areas of land and have recently been involved in preventing the reopening of a local mine that would have brought untold environmental and river pollution.

One of our new initiatives is the re-introduction of bees (pesticides are wiping butterflies & bees out). By planting huge numbers of bee friendly plants we have aided the return of many species of wild bees. In addition we have introduced nearly 50 hives to help kick start the local bee population

Our clean buffalo breeding project has been a huge success and as only recently been included under the AHF umbrella of projects. Twenty years ago there were only 400 TB free buffalo in the country, today there are over 20,000 Perhaps our most important project is our rhino breeding project. This is coming along well despite the constant threat of poaching. So far we have been lucky and only lost 2 to poaching. Its a difficult and expensive project but we are committed to continuing regardless.
